On verra bien.

A titre d'essai, je tente ceci : une traduction du Tutoriel de tchatte de Thyme ...

s'il y a un écho ...

Thanks very much for the French seamless3d chat translation Matthieu
I am Sorry you have not had any feedback but I get very little feedback on the English tutorials too (who reads tutorials lol?) however If I Google for Seamless3d I do find many more use the program than who write to the forum and I get many visits every day so it is difficult to be sure what is happening.
I stopped with the French updates for the modeller (the exe) because many of the translations are now out of date and your translations are for the English versions so this may lead to confusion. I remember you pointed out there were problems with translating the program some time ago because some of the key words that are derived from the English language have a specific meaning for seamless (same as for vrml) and this I understood was why you wrote the translations for the tutorials for the English modeller.
A French version complicates things for tutorials because there would have to be 2 translations one for the French modeller and one for the English modeller which most French users use.

It took me about a week to make it so I could have a version reference a different language (I had to change how it does its internal proto look up code) so I did not make this decision lightly.
Most will not understand how many hours goes into uploading each version (its typically a day or 2 days work just to upload).
I have to test each version with the robot demos which takes hours just doing this and if I have an error (can happen many times) I have to start again (its like a game of snakes and ladders). Doing this for both an English version and a French version increases the work load a lot.
If I knew people relied on the French version and if someone who was experienced in using seamless wanted to translate it I would be happy to continue to upload the French version.
I think a French version could be made not to cause problems for tutorials if only the tool tips (not the menu) were translated. Perhaps I could make it so that the translated tool tips could be downloaded as a separate file to the modeller. But this would take some redesigning.

Please join me for a seamless3d chat session Matthieu, I will have the server running every day for a few weeks.
I find its easier to communicate some things by chat than on forums or emails and we will be testing the server out at the same time :)
Anyone is welcome to join.

Thyme:
I have only uploaded the English version because:
Many of the French version's translations need to be updated.
Many of the key words for the Seamless3d modelling language are derived from the English language (same as for VRML) but have a specific meaning for Seamless3d, so many of the key words used in the menus should perhaps not be translated.
Matthieu's French translations for the tutorials refer to the English modeller with all the images for the English modeller
All French Seamless3d users I know use the English modeller.
It takes many hours for me to compile, test and upload 2 versions for each update.
However If anyone liked using the French version please let me know.

That's exactly why I intended to make a french translation for the ENGLISH version of the modeller. The modeller must remain "as is" to avoid confusion. The french translations of the tutos are there to help using the english modeller. My best aim is to always produce the same french words (or expression) for the same appearence of an english word (or expression), whatever the context : and it is far from easy. The two languages are not bijective. But this constraint is very important to users. If I fail (and I sure do) please let me know!

When I refer to the english modeller, I print the english words in bold face, and my translation in italics, like that :

---> Le Tchatte de Seamless3d

Thanks very much Mathieu I have been much happier for taking time to make art and I advise all others to do the same. Debating political issues on forums is a huge waste of time.

I want to add recordings of my voice (or any voice if one wishes) to my demos and make the demos downloadable from a separate file as it would be silly to have the speech in one file and the demos part of seamless. I began converting the immediate av demo but after many hours of intensive work I decided this immediate av demo is just too much work to maintain so I am going to rewrite it and simplify it a lot. It will be lower poly because I think high poly stuff is better left to the nurbs or subdivision modelling at least for demos, and if one wants to make a high poly av using poly modelling (immediate editing) a low poly demo still teaches all the important tasks for this.
I spent 1/3rd of a year developing the immediate demo last year which was meant to be only be a 2 week ordeal so I have bad memories from how long it took but some good ideas did come from this dark period.
I will not use the RingBuild node since few seem to use it including myself. Though I think it had some good points, using a nurbs lathe seems so much simpler just to start and everyone seems to intuitively understand how to use them. The RingBuild will continue to be supported by seamless however, who knows it may have a great use for something.
I am very sorry for all the work you did translating this demo Matthieu and I know I asked you to do the translating for it. I hope some of this work you did can be salvaged but I would not ask you to translate another because the future is just impossible to predict.
Part of me wanted to end the immediate demo long ago same as the French version but I felt an obligation to keep it going for a while but the amount of work involved began to seriously eat up my time. I had to write fixes for new features to allow the immediate demo to work around them which was a lot more work than I would have guessed. I dislike too that it takes over 3 hours, I think this puts many off ever trying. Another big pain of the immediate demo was for some reason it made the C++ compiler take over 15 minutes to compile it when compiling for release mode. The new demo files would not have this problem however.
One thing though that would seriously break the old immediate demo was making it so that when a triangle is inserted the new vertex is indexed so that its inserted in order, This can have big advantages I now realise and I added this feature but for immediate editing I had to remove it just to keep the immediate demo alive. The other demos don't have the same problems of immediate modelling because nurbs control points dont get as complicated as trinagle structures. All the vertices are clicked on by the mouse using the index order so there is no going back to fix something like delete a triangle because the index order keeps changing on you. It was a shame that of all my demos I made the imemdiate demo take the longest in time to perform. My original vision was it would prove seamless could make a complete avatar without crashing but only I seem to marvel at this :)

Sarah I made 2.142 be able to display tool tips in a different language
Unlike before, a different version of Seamless3d does not have to be compiled for a different language, only a text file has to be supplied and put in the same folder as the exe so this does not cause me extra work for each update. So far no user has requested the tips be translated. Once they are translated one has to remember they then have to be maintained which can be a chore.

To chat using seamless3d only the words "avatar", "worldUrl" and "nickname" and the tool tip for the browse web file button would have to be translated.
Seamless3d supports French characters and I have seen for my self people chatting in French using Seamless3d chat who are not fluent in English. Even a Seamless3d user from Japan managed to log in using Seamless3d chat and even set up the server from their computer (which most are not expected to do any more) themself and had only a robot translator to translate for them. Remember too the Seamless3d modelling language like VRML or Python is derived from English but is not English, the words have specific meanings as Matthieu pointed out long ago. Seamless3d is not VRML but for anyone fluent in VRML and JavaScript it has to be the most friendly alternative modern 3d language I am aware of.

When developing free open source software free from the compromises of a committee one can not pretend they have a team of programmers working for them, one has to use their time very wisely. Many focus on what Seamless3d can not do and miss out on all the things it can do which is one reason I am now focusing most of my time on making content. I don't see others making content that comes any where near what seamless is achieving. Despite all its bugs and holes its has the important features I need.
